Renewables and foreign markets: Sicily accelerates its energy journey.

The third edition of HEYSUN will take place at SiciliaFiera from September 30th to October 2nd. ITA (Italian Trade Agency) is strengthening the event’s international dimension with over 30 international buyers and 400 one-on-one meetings between Italian companies and energy sector operators.

CATANIA – Sicily is currently at the center of some of the key strategic transitions related to the evolution of the European and Mediterranean energy system. On the one hand, the region is attracting investments in photovoltaic, storage, energy infrastructure, and interconnections; on the other, the role of energy supply chain companies in international markets is growing, while global demand for energy transition technologies continues to accelerate.

According to ICE Agency, An agency for the promotion and internationalization of Italian companies abroad, the Italian renewable energy sector currently generates revenues of between €9 and €12 billion, increasingly driven by exports of components, energy systems, and technologies related to smart grids, industrial automation, storage, and renewable energy generation. This growth is particularly evident in the Gulf countries, North Africa, and several emerging economies, areas that are increasing investments in electricity grids, energy security, and infrastructure related to the green transition.

From the United Arab Emirates to Saudi Arabia, to African and Latin American markets, energy demand requires new technologies, storage systems, network digitalization, and integrated energy management solutions. This dynamic is bringing the Mediterranean back to the center of new international industrial and energy trends, and is assigning Sicily an increasingly strategic role as a connection point between Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

At the same time, the importance of events fostering industrial relations and openings to foreign markets is also growing. HEYSUN – Energy Transition Expo, now in its third edition and scheduled for September 30 to October 2, 2026, at SiciliaFiera, is strengthening its international reach this year through activities dedicated to incoming visitors and B2B meetings between Italian and foreign companies. The event will bring together businesses, utilities, institutions, universities, and energy sector operators to discuss key topics related to renewables, storage, smart grids, energy security, and new infrastructure. Alongside the exhibition area, it will also feature a program dedicated to the exchange between industry, innovation, and energy development.

Among the new features of the 2026 edition is the participation of ITA – Italian Trade Agency (ITA), which will strengthen its efforts to foster dialogue between Italian companies and international markets.
“ITA’s goal is to support the internationalization of the renewable energy sector and, in particular, to support the growth of Italian SMEs in foreign markets,” explained Luca Durante, Director of the Capital Goods Office at ITA, during the press conference presenting the event at MIMIT. ITA’s inclusion in HEYSUN further consolidates Sicily’s role as a meeting point between Italian companies in the energy sector and foreign markets. The 2026 edition will see the participation of over 30 buyers from ten countries and the programming of approximately 400 one-to-one meetings between Italian companies and international operators active in sectors related to renewables, energy infrastructure, and green transition technologies.

The international delegation will involve operators from, among others, Croatia, Spain, Saudi Arabia, several African countries, Argentina, and Mexico, with particular attention to markets that are accelerating investments in energy infrastructure and decarbonization technologies.

This development confirms how Sicily is increasingly becoming a hub for renewable energy development, energy investments, and new international opportunities for companies in the energy supply chain.
