THE 23RD EDITION OF EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK HELD ON SEPTEMBER 25

AT ‘HEYSUN’ – THE MEDITERRANEAN EXPO FOR ENERGY TRANSITION

From September 25 to 27, 2024, the SiciliaFiera exhibition center in Misterbianco, located on Corso Carlo Marx, with an entrance on Via Franchetti, will host the “HeySun” Energy Transition Expo. This is the largest Mediterranean trade fair dedicated to renewable energy and will host the twenty-third edition of European Mobility Week, with September 25th dedicated to Mobility Day. Ramon Vila, the ambassador of the European Climate Pact and the official promoter of European Mobility Week, will be present. He emphasizes that “The way we move determines the quality of life in our cities.”

There will be a rich program of cultural, educational, and informative initiatives related to sustainability and the energy transition, involving primary and secondary schools in Catania and Misterbianco. Because young people represent the future, students will have the opportunity to enjoy learning about sustainability best practices applied in their daily lives while having fun.

FIAB Catania MONTAinBIKE Sicilia ASD, a member of FIAB ETS (Italian Federation of Environment and Cycling), will be an active participant with a series of initiatives showcasing the bicycle as a tool for achieving the energy transition. President Marco Oddo emphasizes: “At the stand, the Association’s volunteers will promote FIAB’s initiatives, including those related to home-school and home-work travel, which feature the bicycle as a means of transportation. They will explain how to integrate it with public and private transportation in one’s travel. A bicycle circuit will be set up where students from participating schools can test the routes in groups and test their skills. A bicycle workshop will be set up next door, where they will learn the basics of bicycles and carry out repairs on their own. Furthermore, we will be present at the training conferences, thus providing insight into the activities FIAB offers for every citizen.”

The event’s partner is Azienda Metropolitana Trasporti e Sosta Spa (AMTS), which will provide electric shuttles from the Monte Po’ metro station to Hall C1 inside the exhibition center. FCE Metro will also provide tickets to young people visiting HeYSun.

“It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome Mobility Day at SiciliaFiera for HeySun,” said President Nino Di Cavolo. “This event represents an important opportunity to explore innovations and sustainable solutions in the mobility sector, which are crucial for the future of our region and beyond. Mobility Day is a meeting point for experts, companies, and citizens interested in discovering the technologies and strategies that will shape the mobility of the future. At a time when sustainability and innovation are at the center of our concerns, events like this are crucial to fostering greater awareness and constructive dialogue on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. SiciliaFiera is committed to supporting initiatives that foster the economic and social development of our region, and Mobility Day is a perfect example of this commitment. Our organization is proud to host an event that highlights the potential of sustainable mobility and the innovative solutions that can improve the quality of life in our communities. I want to thank all the participants, exhibitors, and speakers who helped make this day possible. Your presence and commitment are a testament to the growing interest and need for a shift toward more sustainable and efficient mobility practices.

European Mobility Week is a Europe-wide initiative. Every year from September 16th to 22nd, events and demonstrations are held in all European cities to raise awareness of sustainable mobility and promote behavioral change in favor of active mobility, particularly among younger generations. This year, the European Commission’s awareness campaign on sustainable urban mobility, under the slogan “Shared Public Space,” will focus on the importance of shared use of public spaces in cities, where over 70% of Europeans live. The campaign’s goal is to encourage local authorities to experiment with innovative planning measures for space management that takes into account the needs of all, starting with the most vulnerable, and in particular to promote new infrastructure and technologies, measure air quality, and obtain public feedback.
