The second edition of the ‘HeySun’ – Energy Transition Expo, the major Mediterranean trade fair dedicated to renewable energy, was presented at a press conference held at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, in the Parlamentino Hall of Palazzo Piacentini. The fair will be held from September 25 to 27, 2025, at the SiciliaFiera exhibition center in Misterbianco, on Corso Carlo Marx, with an entrance on Via Franchetti.
Marco Calabrò, Head of the Business Department at MIMIT, will be hosting the event. “The collaboration between MIMIT and AEFI to promote the excellence of Italian trade fairs continues. This fair, which focuses on sustainable energy, offers concrete solutions to support businesses on their journey toward green transition, in line with the Italian approach to reconciling the essential objectives of environmental sustainability with business needs,” stated Calabrò. “The three-day event will focus on high-efficiency photovoltaics, hydrogen, sustainable mobility, and many other topics consistent with the Ministry’s policies, including fourth-generation nuclear power, which could provide an effective solution to Italian businesses’ need to contain energy costs.”

Pietro Piccinetti, President of the AEFI Internationalization Committee, reinforces the Fair’s concept, emphasizing: “‘HeySun’ represents a virtuous example of how the Italian trade fair system can address major contemporary challenges, combining innovation, sustainability, and territorial development. Bringing an international event of this caliber to the heart of the Mediterranean, in a strategic region like Sicily, means enhancing not only the potential of the South, but also the role of trade fairs as drivers of economic, cultural, and environmental growth. As an Association, we are proud to support initiatives like this one that focus on the future of energy and dialogue between businesses, institutions, and new generations.”

Antonio Decaro, MEP and President of ENVI, reiterated: “HeySun is a trade fair that addresses a crucial topic for Europe’s future: the energy transition. This represents an opportunity for our companies. Accelerating the process of cleaner energy systems is not only beneficial to the environment, but can also reduce energy costs and expenses for our businesses. We must continue to invest in green technology, sustainability, and innovation. Thank you for your commitment. Together, we can create a greener, more modern, and more sustainable Europe.”

Fabrizio Spada, European Parliament Office in Italy “The European Parliament strongly supports initiatives such as HEYSUN – Energy Transition Expo, which promote dialogue between institutions, citizens, businesses and research on strategic issues for the future of Europe. The Mobility Days, in the framework of the European Mobility Week, are a concrete example of how the energy transition can become a reality in the territories, thanks to the active involvement of young people, schools and local communities.”

Fabrizio Penna Capo PNRR MASE Department – The importance of the initiative is evident from a well-attended press conference where the key themes of efficiency and sustainability are central to the Ministry. We believe in solar, photovoltaic, geothermal, and all clean energy sources. As a Ministry, we are obligated to invest more than 50% of the PNRR in Southern Italy. We support Heysun because we believe in the value of the initiative. Nino Di Cavolo As President of SiciliaFiera, he stated: “The second edition of this important event demonstrates our exhibition center’s ongoing commitment to creating a dynamic hub where institutions, businesses, startups, universities, students, and citizens collaborate to promote innovation, sustainability, and regional development. SiciliaFiera thus confirms its position as the Mediterranean hub for energy transition, technological innovation, and sustainable mobility, in line with our vision of a greener and more prosperous future, supported by collaboration with the European Parliament and the patronage of the European Commission and the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, in full harmony with the objectives of the Green Deal, the PNRR, and the 2030 Agenda. We are located in the heart of the Mediterranean and we want to create a virtuous corridor between Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Arab world, actively contributing to the development not only of Sicily, but of all of Italy. Furthermore, this year, Heysun will again host “Mobility Days,” the official event of the European Mobility Week, with a rich program of activities dedicated especially to the younger generations: workshops for schools and families, test drives of electric vehicles, demonstration areas for micromobility, meetings with experts and institutional representatives.” Three intense days of networking, meetings, and roundtable discussions will take place within the largest exhibition area in Southern Italy. Hydrogen and much more will be discussed during the three-day event, which will address multiple scenarios, from agrivoltaics to offshore wind, from solar thermal and thermodynamic energy to high-efficiency photovoltaic conversion, from CO2 capture and reuse (just-in-time) (methanation) to e-fuels, from energy efficiency in residential buildings to Renewable and Sustainable Energy Communities.

The round tables, conferences, and panels are coordinated by Professor Rosario Lanzafame, Full Professor of Machines and Systems for Energy and the Environment and Departmental Delegate for Energy at the University of Catania. He is also president of the regional technical-scientific commission for the evaluation of ‘Hydrogen Valley’ projects, and heads the Fair’s technical-scientific committee. This year’s theme is “The De-Fossilization of Energy Sources.”

HeySun enjoys the collaboration of the European Parliament and the patronage of the European Commission; Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security; Sicilian Regional Assembly; Sicilian Region – Department of Energy and Public Utilities; Metropolitan City of Catania; Port System Authority of the Eastern Sicilian Sea; Chamber of Commerce of South East Sicily; Municipality of Misterbianco; University of Catania; INFN – National Institute of Nuclear Physics, National Laboratories of the South; AMTS – Metropolitan Transport and Parking Company Catania S.p.A.; Order of Agronomists and Forestry Doctors of the Province of Catania; Order of Surveyors; Offshore Renewable Energy Association; Italian Sustainable Agrivoltaic Association; National Association of Young Innovators (ANGI); ASviS – Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development; ANCE Catania; CDO Sicily; Confagricoltura; Confartigianato Sicily; Confcommercio Sicily; Confambiente; Ecosystem Training Italy; Solar Future; Sustainable Italy Foundation.
